How to use
- Simple shows the genre, vibe, length and mood, and on a wide screen a chord sheet with every bar's chord to sing over (click a section to jump there); Advanced shows every control. Under Mood, Rainy day, Sunny afternoon, Late night, Dreamy and Party set the tempo, energy, groove, lo-fi, reverb and mixer for you, and More or Less upbeat nudge them a step; the seed and key stay, and you can fine-tune any of it in Advanced.
- Press New song until a seed grabs you, or type any word into Seed. The same seed and settings always give the same song.
- Pick a genre. Alt-perreo is moody minor-key reggaeton: Dembow is the straight groove, Half-time lays it back, Mixed keeps verses half-time and choruses full. Chamber folk is harp-led, with long verses and a refrain, an oboe counter-line, accordion, strings and upright bass, in 3/4 or 4/4. Cumbia is accordion-led over güira, congas and a bass on one and three. Bossa nova is nylon guitar over a thumbed bass, shaker and cross-stick. Darkwave is driving synth bass, a straight backbeat and cold pads.
- Set the essentials (key, mode, tempo, groove or meter) and the target length.
- Add or remove instruments under Mixer, from either genre: an accordion over a dembow works. Each section plays them on Auto; tap a part in a section's inspector to switch it on or off there (dashed means you set it), or ↺ All on Auto to undo.
- Shape the arrangement: pick a section, change its type, bars, chords and which parts play. Drag a section by its ⠿ grip to reorder it (or focus it and press Alt + ↑ / ↓), Duplicate to extend, and New melody to rewrite that section's lead line.
- Break out of the genre with Crossover. Metal adds palm-muted, distorted power-chord chugs locked to the kick, double-kick runs, crashes and heavy breakdowns; Ska adds off-beat guitar skanks and a horn section; Ska-metal does both. Collide rolls a random crossover. Amount decides how many sections it takes over; set any section to On or Off in its inspector.
- Press Play; it becomes Pause, which keeps your place, and ■ Stop goes back to the start. Click a section's name in the timeline to jump to its start, or anywhere else in the timeline to jump to that exact moment. Turn on Loop section to repeat the selected section while you write lyrics over the lead. The repeat button (two arrows) loops the whole song; the crossed-arrows button keeps playing, with a new song each time this one ends. Under Playback, choose whether the next song stays in this genre or can be any of the five. The lead is a vocal guide: follow its rhythm and contour, then make it yours.
- Balance the instruments in the Mixer, then export a WAV to sing over, or MIDI to open in a DAW and replace the sounds.
Everything is synthesized in your browser: oscillators, noise, filters, plucked strings (harp, nylon guitar, upright bass) modelled with Karplus–Strong, percussion shaped from noise and falling sines, a generated reverb and a compressor. No samples, and nothing is sent anywhere. The music is generated from the seed, so what you make with it is yours.
